COURSE OVERVIEW
Normal labour resulting in uncomplicated vaginal delivery follows certain time limits and progress milestones. Failure to meet these milestones defines abnormal labor, which suggests an increased risk of an unfavorable outcome. Shoulder dystocia is one of the most anxiety provoking emergencies encountered by the practising physician. Calm and effective management of this emergency is possible with recognition of the impaction and institution of specified maneuvers. This module elaborates on the clinical background of abnormal labor with emphasis on shoulder dystocia and the available therapeutic modalities for patients in maternity care.
