Gynecology Master CME: Maternal Hypertension: Impact on Fetal Growth

COURSE OVERVIEW

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy often represent a continuum from bad to worse ranging from chronic pre-existing disease to life-threatening conditions. They are the single most common cause of maternal death and cause significant perinatal morbidity and mortality as well, including abruptio placentae, fetal growth restriction and pre-term delivery. Thus, a working knowledge of abnormalities that may portend adverse outcomes for the mother and/or the fetus is essential. This module will identify those conditions related to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and their evaluation and treatment, specifically pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.

• Discuss the etiologies of and risk factors for hypertensive disorders in pregnancy
• Enumerate the symptoms and summarize the physical findings
