Gynecology Master CME: Infertility: Clinical Approach to Evaluation and Management

COURSE OVERVIEW

Infertility is a common condition occurring in about 15% of couples at some time in their reproductive lives. It has both psychosocial and medical implications for the involved couple, their family and the community. Advances in the field of reproductive medicine and infertility are being made at an increasingly rapid rate. Statistics indicate that over 80% of couples who seek care from a reproductive specialist will achieve pregnancy. Most of these pregnancies occur with medical treatment and intrauterine insemination. Assisted reproduction techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), lCSI, etc. have achieved widespread acceptance in the society. This course will address the various evaluation and management modalities for an infertile patient that will assist the gynecologists in their clinical practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After successfully completing this CME course, the participant should be able to:
• Understand the magnitude of the infertility problem and its different etiologies
• Perform a relevant physical examination and utilize basic diagnostic tools
• Recognize ART techniques, counsel couples about their efficacy, and refer them to qualified specialists in the field, as needed
