Cardiology Master CME: Coronary Heart Disease and Hypertension

COURSE OVERVIEW

A well known fact known to all is uncontrolled, prolonged and untreated elevated blood pressure (BP) leads to numerous changes in the myocardial structure, coronary vasculature, and conduction system of the heart. The terminology “hypertensive heart disease” is implied to heart diseases, like left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and congestive cardiac failure (CCF) that are caused by direct or indirect effects of elevated BP. With such intense effects of BP, early control of high blood pressure through various pharmacological and non-pharmacological means has been explained through this module.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity the participant is likely to understand
• The extent of prevalence of uncontrolled BP
• The effects on the conduction system
• Early intervention measures implemented to curtail the mortality
