COURSE OVERVIEW
The skin acts as a barrier to pathogenic bacteria — research has shown that skin is effective at preventing growth and invasion of pathogenic organisms. Understanding how the microflora is invaded is important. This module is second in series of “Skin Infections”, outlining an overview of how bacteria invade the normal microflora of the skin and to discuss the common Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections that result.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
On completion of this continuing medical education offering, participants will be able to:
• Understanding the skin – as normal healthy barrier
• Identify the type of microflora that inhabits skin and risk factors predisposing the skin to infection
• Identify and manage the various skin disorders clinically associated with microbial infections
