Dermatology Master CME: Dermatitis and dermatosis: Understand the facts

COURSE OVERVIEW

Dermatitis is a common condition though not life-threatening or contagious, makes the person uncomfortable and self-conscious. There are different types of dermatitis, including seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis. Although the disorder can have many causes and occur in many forms, it usually involves swollen, reddened and itchy skin. Dermatoses is another skin disorder, the most common being psoriasis which is a common T-cell-mediated immune disorder characterized by circumscribed, red, thickened plaques with an overlying silver-white scale and responds to steroids. Few variants of dermatitis may also respond only to steroid therapy. It is important to distinguish these various clinical dermatological manifestations so as to optimize correct treatment for the same, has been explained through this module.
