COURSE OVERVIEW
Till date acute bacterial meningitis (ABM) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality within the pediatric population. Pediatricians have the responsibility to rapidly identify and appropriately treat a child in whom ABM is suspected. This module reviews the most recent literature concerning detection, treatment, and prognosis of one of the more devastating aliments in the pediatric population, along with guidelines for treatment of ABM based upon the currently available evidence.

• Modalities available for early detection of ABM
• Institution of prompt treatment with effective antibiotics
