Pulmonary Medicine Master CME: Asthma and COPD: Similarities and Differences

COURSE OVERVIEW

This module is intended to provide an overview of two important obstructive respiratory diseases namely asthma and chronic obstructive disease (COPD) with the object to provide practical information for the management of patients with COPD and asthma. There is considerable overlap in presentation and management of both these respiratory conditions. Both conditions are caused by an interaction between intrinsic, genetic factors and environmental exposures. Both the conditions can be managed with pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic strategies focused on treating bronchoconstriction and airway inflammation.

• Identify symptoms of COPD & Asthma.
• Differentiate COPD from Asthma.
• Provide management according to correct diagnosis
