COURSE OVERVIEW
Reflux diseases have been increasingly on the rise in today’s era of globalization. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one among the most common challenging disorders often seen as two discrete entities – one is the classic severe acid reflux with erosive esophagitis and its complications, and the other is nonerosive reflux disease (NERD) with minimal or no esophagitis. The treatment of GERD has particular
emphasis on the role of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) widely used nowadays for the treatment of gastric acid diseases. This module will help the clinician to have a better understanding of the clinical aspects involved in the diagnosis and management of esophageal acid reflux disease in order to implement an effective therapeutic strategy.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
• Discuss in detail the pathophysiology of GERD and NERD
• Identify and distinguish the clinical signs and symptoms
• Evaluate a patient with the presenting features
• Implement an individualized therapeutic strategy
